MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDE A SUCCESS – MORE ORGANISED

Everyone had great fun on the Stokes Cycling Club’s first mountain bike ride last month, and after requests for more, they are running another on Saturday 22nd October at 1400 from the Bradley Stoke Leisure centre. It will be about 12 miles long, goes to Tockington and Old down, and is mainly on tracks and bridleways, so a mountain bike is required, but it won’t be too technical for beginners.

The ride leader, mountain bike coach Andy Parker, said

The first ride was great fun, everyone had a good time, and I was able to help some people with their technique. Everyone came back with a smile on their face!

Rider Richard Burton, said

Andy knew about tracks that I didn’t even know existed, and helped me improve my riding. It was a great ride and a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to the next one.

If you fancy some fun riding with a friendly local bike club, come along. And if you aren’t into mountain biking, check out our web site for our other rides, with everything from family rides to fifty milers and everything in between.

Summer of Fun: 5-12 years – Saturday 20th August

We joined Friends Of Jubilee Green as they ran their "Summer Of Fun" event for 5-12 year olds. We were on hand to provided free bike checkups and give out information about the club. Then at 12 we headed off for a 5 1/2 mile family ride to Bakers Ground in Stoke Gifford. This is what Michelle chair and trustee of Friends Of Jubliee Green had to say about the ride as she joined us for the first time:

The family bike ride to a park in Stoke Gifford saw a healthy 14 people set off despite the threat of rain. After a quick stop in the park in Bakers Ground to play and grab a sandwich the brave riders set off on their return journey. Unfortunately, 2 lampposts got in the way of two of the younger riders but after a quick hug they were eager to set off again.

It was a pleasure to work with Stokes Cycling Club, the bike checkups were very popular and we saw lots of families arriving by bike specifically to use this valuable community service. I want to thank the club for giving up their Saturday morning to join our event, for moving a previously planned ride and for sharing their bike maintenance skills with the community. I look forward to working with you all at our events next year!

Family ride to Abbeywood – Sunday 3rd January 2011

Here's excerpt from Martina's review, you can read the full review on the Ride Reviews page:

“What a fantastic morning!

I have been hunting for a cycling club for sometime now; one that will suit all our family needs, which to be honest is a bit of a tall order....

Everyone was so friendly and straight away we all felt that Stoke Cycling Club was the one for us....

Robyn pedalled faster than she has ever pedalled before and not because she was trying to keep up, Robyn spent most of the time at the front, as the group rode to her pace which made Robyn ride with such confidence, so lovely to see....

We so enjoyed been out with you guys, Rob has completed the membership form and we hope to join you for the next family ride.

A huge Thank you,
The Obee Family”
